Encaustic Art
The Ancient Greeks, Egyptians and Romans used heated beeswax to paint encaustic portraits and murals. Beeswax is still an important ingredient of today's modern formula, which now includes lightfast non-toxic pigments. All colours are completely intermixable and many of the pigments embody excellent translucent properties.
Encaustic wax has been developed to be used in a liquid state and melts at 65°C.
