A lower number means the particles passed through a coarse mesh (fewer holes per inch), creating a bumpy surface that cuts fast. A higher number means the particles passed through a dense mesh (more holes per inch), resulting in a fine powder-like texture. Therefore, the lower the number the coarser/rougher the paper surface.
