The Kitronik ZIP LEDs Add-On Pack extends the Kitronik Inventor’s Kit for BBC micro:bit with programmable RGB lighting, helping students explore coding, electronics and visual feedback through practical experiments. Students learn how to control colour and movement across LEDs and programme lights to respond to inputs from components such as sensors and potentiometers.
ZIP LEDs are individually addressable RGB LEDs, meaning each light can be controlled independently to produce different colours and effects. Based on WS2812B technology, they can be programmed for micro:bit using Microsoft MakeCode or MicroPython, providing opportunities to progress from block-based coding into text-based programming.
The included tutorial introduces the technology through nine experiments, with an additional experiment available online, helping students develop their understanding step by step.
